At the beginning of each year, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) investigates hemp extract/CBD companies, looking for compliance in two areas; first, confirming the contents of said products and second, that no medical claims concerning hemp products are being made.

The growth of the hemp oil market has grown significantly in recent years. As a result, the FDA examines claims made by all hemp/CBD companies. Within the last few years, the FDA has sent warning letters to numerous companies regarding medical claims, but also stating that a given CBD product was tested, and found to have little to no CBD.

All FDA warning letters to hemp/CBD companies are made public. The introduction to the most recent examination of CBD companies in February states,

For obvious reasons making false claims about the content of a product is not only unethical but potentially harmful to the health of the consumer. By providing these warning letters to the public, the FDA provides transparency while equally protecting the interest of consumers. Warning letters for 2017 will likely be published in February.
