Brittany Boone is a 115 pound female fighter training out of Factory X in Englewood, Colorado. Going 5-2-0 as an amateur, “Britt Fitt” will be making her professional debut this month and hopes to make a statement in 2018. She is a force to be reckoned with.

How did you get started in MMA?

“I’ve been in sports since before I graduated high school. Once I graduated I had nothing to  fill that void. I  participated in softball and track. Going to the gym and lifting weights just didn’t cut it. For athletes, after high school you literally don’t know what to do!

My fiance, Brian Camozzi (then boyfriend) was already doing this (MMA) when he was in high school. I followed along and took some classes. It filled that space that was empty. I always had a competitive edge, so I wanted to compete. I started kickboxing and then transitioned to MMA.”

It is one thing to train and another to fight? When did you realize that you wanted to be a competitor?

“It was about a year after I started training that I had the realization that I could compete. I wanted to see if what I was learning would work in practical application. After the first time I fought, I was hooked.

I started with striking and I still love striking, but more fun being able to incorporate everything. In MMA you can’t be good at one thing. You have to be good at everything.”

MMA encompasses multiple facets of marital arts, requiring competitors to learn skill standing, on the ground and everything in between. Being locked in a metal cage with an opponent who’s only intention is to hurt you, take a different mindset than trying to turn a double play in softball. It can be a balancing act to keep the physical and emotional aspects in check.

“The biggest difference I found when competing in MMA from other sports was the adrenaline. Learning how to keep moving even though you feel like you can’t. Learning how to adjust and have the adrenaline work for you not against you.”

Was your family supportive of you becoming an MMA fighter?

“My family has been to every fight and loved it from day one. The have never not been supportive. They have been like that my whole life. As long as I loved what I was doing, they were there for me.”

Boone’s younger brother has also taken Muay Thai classes on and off, and even cornered her once. Her mom has been training in Muay Thai and jiu jitsu for the last two years. Boone’s family has a realistic appreciation for what she does.

Were you a fitness advocate before training in the sport?

Along with her tenacious fight skills, Brittany Boone is known for her athletic physique and ability to inspire others to lead a healthy lifestyle.

“I think it is important in general. I’m not perfect. I don’t always eat perfect. I have been in sports my entire life so it has always been a lifestyle for me.

Everyone assumes the name “Britt Fitt” is because I am in shape. Really it is something my father would say when I threw a tantrum. It stuck!”

What inspired you to become a massage therapist?

“I was actually getting a massage. I thought ‘I could probably do this’ . . . I completely changed my career choice. At that time I was a CNA and was in college. I completely changed direction. It must have been a really great massage!”

Any good massage requires a massage therapist that is knowledgeable and cognizant of muscle function. As an athlete Brittany Boone understands these concepts first hand.

“I am used to being an athlete. I have a big athletic clientele. Since I am also experienced in other sports it makes sense for me to work on multiple athletes who compete in different sports.  There is a good chance that if they say something hurts I probably know the motion that is causing the pain and can address that.”

What do you do to keep your body in top condition?

“Training. Doing this. I go to Landow Strength and Conditioning. I walked in at 103 lbs and I have gained weight in a way I wanted to. I am a lot stronger.

I also get massages. I go to 5280 Balanced Health Center for chiropractic care and Rx Sports Recovery. They have hot and cold therapy tubs. I don’t take a lot of supplements, though I am not against it. I am just forgetful. I do take BCAAS.

Recovery is very important in this sport. My favorite thing to use for recovery is Receptra Targeted Topical. I use Receptra all the time when anything hurts. I even use it in my massages!”

What is it like being a smaller woman in the sport?

“It is hard to find women fighters. I have three awesome consistent partners here at Factory X. They are all bigger, but I prefer it that way. Feel like if I can move them around then girls at 115 will be no problem. I have also built relationships with some of my past opponents and we cross-train.”

You also teach classes. Has that changed your perspective on MMA?

“I teach kids and a women only fitness class. I think it is important that all women learn self defense. I integrate that into my classes so that they learn proper technique and not just cardio kickboxing.

The kids are amazing. If they stay with it, this upcoming generation of MMA will completely change. A handful of my students I know can make it when they are older. One female in my kids class competes in every BJJ tournament around. She calls herself a ninja all the time. They have a desire to compete and are confident. If they have that mindset now I can only imagine how it will help them succeed, not only in MMA but in school and life.”

Your pro debut is around the corner. Does it feel any different prepping for a pro match?

“It just another fight,” says Boone, with a huge smile on her face. “I am a little more excited. I get to use some different strikes that I couldn’t throw under amature rules and I get a paycheck!”

What can fans expect from Brittany Boone this year?

“I am hoping to have four fights this year. At minimum three so I can get a good streak going and see where I go from there. I would like to grow and get on bigger cards like LFA and Invicta”
